This ruins are located at 4400 metres above the sea level, in the Aconquija Range in the province of Tucumán. The ciudacita ruins have always been guarded by the Yungas (wet and dense jungle), and that's why most of the people knew them as "unreachable" (and that´s also why they are in such an excelent conditions...).
In this adventure, besides the Yungas, there´s another problem: the Puna (altitude sickness), wich will make even harder to get to the old inka buildings.
The ruins of La Ciudacita date from 1480, and they were part of the inka province of Collasuyu, on the south border of the empire. One of the misterys hidden in these ruins is that there were found no dead bodies; and it generated a few theories among the scientists who had studied the buildings...
One of the theories says that this city was only used for studying the stars, and so they were inhabited only a few weeks in a whole year.
Another theory says that the city had been used for metal extraction, specificly, gold.
Other scientists came to the conclusion that it was a defence city against possible south oppressors.
Is yet unknow how truthful these theories are, but is also truth that the place has not been deeply studied. At the present time, the ruins and it´s access are inside the National Park "Campo de los Alisos" in the Tucumán province. Our trip starts in the village Alpachiri. SEE ALL THE DETAILS |
